Webinars
For the first time this year we have delivered a webinar to MBAs (both full and part-time) entitled “What recruiters want”. Here are a couple of points you may find useful.
What are they?
This is an online conference facility where students can dial in and watch a presentation in real time. Depending on the set up you can type questions during the presentation for the presenter to answer or you may be able to signal you want to verbally ask a question.
The benefits:
- As long as you have access to a computer you can join the webinar, so you can join from anywhere in the world.
- It can be recorded so if students miss it they can play back the webinar at any time.
- No travel, hotel or subsistence costs are incurred!
The challenges:
- You need to have good technical support available as sometimes there can be technical issues. From our experience it is definitely worth making sure you have a test run ahead of time!
- Students need to be in front of a computer
What is the difference between these and teleseminars?
To take part in a teleseminar you dial onto a telephone bridge line where you can listen to the presentation or interview. Students are able to dial in from anywhere and don’t need to be in front of computer. Handouts can be sent separately before the event. The presenter is in charge of the mute button and can ask participants to ask questions. The teleseminar can be recorded and downloaded to be listened to as a podcast.
Next steps...
We see delivery of career development skills via these medium as important for the future. Please email Jane.Barrett@Workmaze.com if you would like to discuss running a webinar or teleseminar specifically for your students or be kept informed of the development of products in this area.
